6 students compete in Fremont Rotary speech contest

FREMONT - Six Ross High School students competed in the Fremont Rotary Club's "Four-Way Speech Contest" on Monday, with senior Grant Gallagher taking the first-place prize of $300 for his talk titled "Hook, Line and Sinker."

The contest, held Monday, allotted students five to seven minutes each to give unique talks that cover the four points of Rotary's Four-Way Test: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Gallagher spoke with enthusiasm about the benefits of fishing, giving such examples as how spending time on the water can build friendships and how everyone can benefit by helping to preserve nature and the environment. He will go on to compete in a regional Rotary Four-Way Test Speech competition in Van Wert on April 8.

Finishing second was Clarita Diaz, a junior at Ross, who was awarded $200, and third place went to junior McKayla Henry, who won $100.  Tied for fourth were senior Alfred Parraz and juniors Savannah Krueger and Jazmin Bulger.

The event, held at Fremont Country Club, was the third annual Four-Way Test Speech Contest sponsored by the Fremont Rotary Club.
