FREMONT - The Easter Bunny made a special visit to Spiegel Grove Tuesday as the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museums hosted a post-holiday egg hunt for School of Hope students.

About 40 Hayes Elementary School students helped their School of Hope friends with the egg hunt, organized by the Fremont Rotary Club.

School of Hope, run by the Sandusky County Board of Developmental Disabilities, provides individuals with developmental disabilities and their families with access to services designed to will enhance the quality of their everyday lives.

Hayes Elementary counselor Kari Hatfield said the Hayes Helpers Team gave up their recess hour to make the trip to Spiegel Grove.

Multicolored eggs were placed around the Hayes presidential grounds as students fanned out to find the hidden treasures.

"They're excited and eager to help," Hatfield said.

After all the eggs were collected, Hayes Elementary and School of Hope students played games together.

Special events/volunteer coordinator Joan Eckermann dressed up as the Easter Bunny and posed for pictures with some of the students.

She held Easter baskets in each hand as she walked with students around the grounds.

Kelsie Overmyer of Woodville brought her son, Oliver, a pre-K student, to the event.

Overmyer said this was the first year her 5-year-old son had taken an interest in Easter egg hunts, both at home and at the Hayes museum.

"He was actually putting eggs into the basket instead of throwing them back in the yard. So, it was a success," Overmyer said.
