Greetings Rotary STRIVE Mentors and Committee Members,

On Friday Rotarian and Vanguard-Sentinel Career and Tech Centers Superintendent Greg Edinger and I met individually with all of the STRIVE students to check on their progress and to provide them with holiday gifts, including our new STRIVE t-shirts (see photo below). I am happy to report that most of our students are making great progress toward their educational goals, and they are finding mentoring to be an important factor in their success.

Our next STRIVE group meeting will be held at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10---please mark your calendars. In January we typically arrange for a panel of college students to discuss college life, but due to the way the calendar and school schedules fall this year, we will not be able to provide this popular program. Instead, our program will focus on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Completion of the FAFSA is mandatory for a student to receive financial aid, so it is critical that every STRIVE student who is planning to attend college complete this online application. Parents will be invited. Attendance is not mandatory for mentors, but you may find the program helpful in working with your student and making sure he or she completes the FAFSA.

Thank you again for your support of our youth. We wish you and your loved ones happy holidays and good health, peace, and many blessings in the new year!
